picking marans

just a quick question
i baought 3 new maran hens and put them in with my older hens, and today i noticed an older hen picking and eathing the feathers
does anybody kno why this happens

    Well Andrew. I'd say they are just establishing a pecking order it should calm down in a few days

    But make sure they stop after a few day otherwise you will have to get a spray to spray the hens that are being pecked as it is a really bad habbit for your hens to get into and can couse alot of problems down the road mostly if there is blood as the rest of the hens will start to pick at the blood spots and in the end kill the hen thats being pecked.

    3days later and the picking stoped, ther al getin along grand now :D
