wouldnt feed to many scraps can make them fat
and can cause drop in number of eggs layed fertility ect
make sure you cook spud peelings as raw they are toxic to chickens
chillie also toxic i find white bread gives them the scutter or to much of it
most pelleted food is well balanced right vitamins and minerals for your birds
to many scraps upsets this as they willl eat the scrap over the pellets every time
and the may lack the nutriants they need so become more pron to illness
soft selled eggs another side effect by all means give you birds scraps as treats
what they can eat in 5 mins
they need access to grit if not free range
and some form of calcium oyster shell roast ground egg shell

I don't feed scraps myself although they do get the odd head of cabbage from the garden. I read some were before that bread can cause a condition call i think bound crop. Not 100% sure if that's the correct name or not . Anyway because hens don't have teeth to grind their food the hold their food in their crop and bread can turn into a doughie ball which can block their digestive system. Have to agree with Vinnie good balanced pellets and what ever they pick up free ranging is more than enough.
