wheres my chicken gone???

my dutch bantam hatched out five beaut lemon peekins .. all was going brill then one day only four chicks left..we searched under her but no chick.. am thinkin the cat somehow reached in and dragged it out .. but no feathers.. the run is very safe but has 1' chicken wire at small part...what ye think.. cat, or pysco bantam.

    Could the chick have got out through the wire do you think? It has been know for a mother hen to eat a poorly chick I think, if it wasn't keeping up with the others. But keep a very firm eye on her, just in case she is a psycho, it wouldn't be the first time. Some hens just don't make good mothers.

    i'd say now she got out through the wire and got ''GOT''.i'd a three week old yesterday that climbed under the chick house and i found her half dead in the hybrids pen.. they vicious little #######s...now i've it barcaded off so's wont be happening again...

    Oh, Cath! Horrible I know - but although all hens can be like that to "intruders", from my own experience of adding new hens to my hybrids, and listening to others, hybrids can be particularly vicious. :( I've been told that to integrate new ones in, it goes better if you can move the old girls (the hybrids in my case) into a new house and pen with the new girls, rather than the other way around - disorientates them. Don't think it would work with my old girls though - they own the world, after all! :roll:

    dutch arn't great sitters anyway.
    My chicks are able to go through the chicken wire ,but they go back to there mother.
    Sometimes the cock gets jealous and kills the chicks.
