    hi noreen
i got on well with the broilers.i was culling the cocks from 8 weeks and the hens from about 10 weeks free range.i got them upto 8 - 9 lb weight.i feed them broiler grower and grower finisher mixed with oats and barley.the next batch sould be ready in two weeks. my 3rd batch is being fed only cereals.the are 3 weeks old now and are by no way doing as good as those fed on the broiler feed.this may be down to the fact that there is less day light therefore them eating less.

i got the grower and finisher in the north.the finisher is more for withdrawing the drugs off the brids before culling.the grower has drugs in the feed and by feeding the withdrawer for the last 4 - 6 day take the drugs out of the brids body which wil leave the meat alot more tender.the breed that i am using now is Ross 208 but i am thinking of trying a Labresse cross broiler strains if i can get some.

Are these the same type of broilers you see in the intense sheds? And if you keep them from an early age will they have a decent life, I got some from a factory farm of 3000. dirty, unable to walk, distorted feet and weighing in at 400lbs each at 5 weeks. wow what a shock. I presume yours look and walk normal if they are outside. I keep my hens outside but am looking for a slow growing pasture bird for the table. Any tips? thanx.

they broilers i keep do have a happy decent life.these chickens are walking and running about the place all day and looks good.depending on the way you feed them the can be table ready in about 7 weeks but i start killing them from 8 weeks to 12 weeks.
